“What God Has Given Us”

FOCUS

Our relationship with God involves the three key ingredients of every other relationship we’ve ever had — initial discovery, mutual commitment & continuance. It’s that last one that makes or breaks everything especially when it comes to the most important relationship a person can ever have. It’s also that last one where we discover who God really is & who we really are.

Of course, continuing to grow in knowing Him just keeps getting better & better. While we do so, we keep discovering He is the One who is perfect, not us. He is the One who saves us, not we ourselves. And when we really realize that the trials we experience in the ongoing process of our relationship with God in this life are part of His master plan, we can rest while we wrestle because there is no doubt whatsoever that we are receiving the end result of our faith.

Peter makes it very clear from the very beginning that …

1. God has given us a living hope based on a resurrected Savior.

God initiated, gave & sustains everything concerning this hope & our inheritance.

1 Peter 1:3-5

2. for now this hope includes trials with faith in an unseen Savior.

The walk of faith requires the awareness that unseen does not mean nonexistent.

1 Peter 1:6-9

Making It Real

1] Do you see the connection between Jesus’ resurrection & our living hope?

2] What does it mean to keep your eyes on Someone you cannot see?

Action Step

Memorize 1 Peter 1:6-7. If you’re so inclined, memorize vs 8-9 as well.
